Admin: Active Streams

The Active Streams page shows everyone currently streaming media from the server, live.

Active streams

For each stream you can see:

  • User - who is watching.
  • Device - the client they’re watching on, such as a browser or a Roku.
  • Title - what they’re watching, linked to its details page.
  • Progress - how far into the title they are.
  • Type - movie or episode.
  • Mode - how it’s being delivered (direct play, remux, or transcode). The Playback decision icon (?) beside it opens the route the server took to that decision, step by step, with the reasons for anything that isn’t a direct play; Playback Decisions explains how to read it, and Transcoding what each reason means.
  • Codecs - the video and audio encoders the session is using.
  • Acceleration - whether the session’s encode runs in Software, as a GPU Encode, or as a GPU Pipeline that decodes on the GPU too, with the acceleration API beside it (see Hardware Acceleration). Direct plays and remuxes copy the video instead of re-encoding it, so no encoder is involved and this column reads N/A.
  • Started - when the session began.

When nobody is streaming, the page shows an empty state. Sessions disappear automatically shortly after a viewer stops watching.
