Error Codes
When something goes wrong, every Sovereign app shows a short sentence and a code beneath it, such as Error PLAY-201. This page lists every code, what usually causes it and what you can do about it.
Reading a Code
Section titled “Reading a Code”A code has two parts. The letters say which area failed: reaching the server, signing in, playing a stream, loading a screen, saving one of your own settings, licensing, or an admin page. The number says who spotted the problem. Codes in the 100s come from your Sovereign server, which knows exactly what went wrong. Codes in the 200s come from the app itself, describing what it saw, such as a request that got no answer or a video the device couldn’t decode.
The same failure has the same code in the web app, on Roku, Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, and on phones and tablets. An admin can match a code a viewer reads out to the reports on the Client Errors page, which list the same codes.
Reaching the Server
Section titled “Reaching the Server”| Code | Message | Likely Cause | What to Do |
|---|---|---|---|
CONN-201 |
Could not reach the server. Check that it is still running and on the same network. | Nothing answered at the server’s address. The server is down, the address is wrong, or the device is on a different network. | Check that the server is running and that the device can reach it. Away from home, see Remote Access. |
CONN-202 |
The server timed out. | The server accepted the connection but didn’t answer in time. | Try again. If it keeps happening, check how busy the server is and whether its media storage is responding. |
CONN-203 |
The security certificate for the server could not be verified. | The server’s HTTPS certificate is expired, self-signed, or issued for a different name than the address you entered. | Renew or fix the certificate, or connect using the exact name the certificate is for. |
CONN-204 |
That server refused the connection. | Something in front of Sovereign, such as a reverse proxy or an identity-aware proxy, turned the request away. | Check the proxy’s access rules and, on a television, the headers it expects. |
CONN-205 |
The server answered with an error. Give it a moment and try again. | Usually a proxy whose Sovereign server is down or still starting. | Wait for the server to finish starting, then check its log. |
CONN-206 |
Something answered at that address, but it is not a Sovereign server. | The address points at a different service or web page. | Check the address and port. |
CONN-207 |
That Sovereign server could not be set up on this device. Give it a moment and try again. | A Sovereign server answered but couldn’t describe itself to the app, often because the server is much older than the app. | Update the server, and check its log if it still happens. |
CONN-208 |
The server is busy. Try again in a moment. | The server asked the app to slow down. | Wait a moment and try again. |
